All the information pertaining to Juan Merchan, the judge overseeing President Trump’s legal proceedings.

On Tuesday, at 2.20pm, the ex-President Donald Trump is due to appear in the dock for his arraignment over accusations of illegal hush-money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. On Tuesday, Trump will make an appearance in front of Judge Juan Merchan for the initial hearing of the historic trial against the ex-President. However, Judge Merchan is already no stranger to President Trump’s business activities, having overseen a legal dispute regarding the Trump Organization and its one-time Chief Financial Officer, Allen Weisselberg. At the trial held last year, Merchan dismissed claims from Trump’s lawyers that the court case was politically driven, CBS News reported. Merchan made it clear that he would not tolerate any claims that this was a rare case or selective prosecution. He also said he had no patience for any questions asked without good intent.
Former Attorney General Bill Barr asserted that the recent indictment against former President Donald Trump was created to hinder the Republican Party’s chances of winning the White House in 2024. Merchan handed down a five-month prison term to Weisselberg, in addition to the maximum fine of $1.6 million laid on Trump’s businesses. He is currently handling the fraud case against Steve Bannon linked to the “We Build the Wall” campaign.
Rep. Elise Stefanik vociferously criticized House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for mentioning that Trump must demonstrate his innocence. Merchan was brought into the world in Bogota, Colombia, and relocated to New York City at the age of 6. Merchan was the youngest of six kids brought up in Queens. He obtained his J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law and kick-started his legal career in 1994 as a prosecutor in Manhattan.
